Information Security and Data Privacy Insights – June 2024

  • Hiring is down generally this month, mainly due to the upcoming election, but many firms plan to start recruiting again post-election.
  • There are pockets of activity where the market remains very busy e.g. operational resilience, driven by the new DORA regulations.
  • Burn-out and mental health concerns are at an all-time high in Security and we are seeing a positive trend in outsourced SOCs being utilised at the weekends to give in-house teams a break.
  • GRC vacancies are gradually becoming more ‘technical’ with requirements often now including strong hands-on cloud experience, or prior experience in a technical security role.
  • The Data Protection and Digital Information Bill has been withdrawn due to the upcoming election. This is now on hold, and it will be up to the next government to decide whether to resume these reforms.
  • Specific skills for niche security and data privacy roles are still difficult to find and usually require a headhunt search, despite there being many available candidates in the market.
  • Hiring activity is mainly at mid-level. Entry level roles are proving difficult to find for juniors looking to get into Security and Data Privacy as a career.
