Information Security Consultant – IBM Mainframe

We are seeking an experienced IBM Mainframe Information Security Consultant for a leading financial services firm. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring the security and integrity of IBM mainframe systems, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing robust security measures. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mainframe security, hands-on experience with IBM mainframe technologies, and a strong background in information security best practices. There will be a focus on mainframe access control management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive security assessments and audits of IBM mainframe systems.
• Identify and mitigate vulnerabilities within mainframe environments.
• Develop, implement, and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures for mainframe systems.
• Perform security configuration reviews and recommend enhancements, particularly around access management.
• Monitor and analyse security events and incidents related to mainframe systems.
• Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure seamless integration of security measures.
• Provide expertise in mainframe security tools, such as RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret.
• Develop and deliver security awareness training for mainframe users and administrators.
• Stay current with the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and regulatory requirements affecting mainframe environments.
• Assist in the investigation and response to security breaches and incidents involving mainframe systems.
• Prepare detailed reports and documentation for management and regulatory compliance.

Skills and Competencies:

• Expert knowledge of encryption, access control, and authentication methods for mainframes.
• Strong understanding of mainframe architecture and security principles.
• Expertise in security risk assessment, vulnerability management, and incident response.
• Familiarity with compliance standards such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience in information security, with a focus on IBM mainframe environments.
• Proven experience with IBM mainframe security tools (e.g., RACF, ACF2, Top Secret).

Certifications (preferred):

• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
• Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
• Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
• IBM Certified System Administrator – Security
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Security or related fields.
