Although the data privacy and cyber security job market is subdued due to economic factors, there are positive signs of future growth. Our data showed a spike in cyber security job recruitment activity at the start of 2024. There is certainly no sign that the cyber security job market is dying. Indeed, there is pent-up demand, and we expect teams to recruit for new cyber security jobs as business confidence returns.
The mental health of professionals in cyber security jobs is at an all-time low. Our own research shows this, and our recruitment consultants find this to be true when talking to job candidates. Managing under-resourced cyber security teams puts CISOs at particular risk of burnout. 80% of CISOs describe themselves as “highly stressed”. Some businesses are outsourcing cyber security jobs that involve weekend work to address this problem.
88% of professionals in the field believe that AI will significantly impact cyber security jobs, according to a recent IS2 survey. But that doesn’t mean that AI will replace them. 56% of professionals believe that it will make cyber security jobs more efficient, which may free up more time for higher-value tasks.
